Jump Rope for Heart - March 2011
Jump Rope For Heart is a national fundraising program that promotes physical activity, heart healthy living, and community service. Students at Canyon Springs learned about their heart and how to keep it healthy, while raising money for the American Heart Association. Check out some of our Canyon Springs heart heroes.
Mural - March 2010
Because of the rich diversity of Special need children at Canyon Springs Elementary, the school was chosen to represent the Sulphur Springs School District, to paint a mural on metal panels. It will be displayed on the Golden Valley Bridge underpass. Forty-two mainstream peer tutors from the 5th and 6th grades teamed together with 53 students with special needs to create masterful panels of art. We can’t wait to see the final product! Waste Not, Want Not - February 2010

Canyon Springs 2nd Annual Veteran’s Day Celebration - Nov. 2008
Canyon Springs Student Affairs Organization honored 12 veterans from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War and the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan in its second annual Veteran’s Day celebration. The veterans: Mayor Bob Kellar, Ruben Trejo, Erik Potter, Becky James, Houston Turner, Phyllis Capelle, Joe Pietroforte, Albert Rodriguez, Jasmin Bravo, Jim Hildreth, Richard Roelofs, and Helen Johnston shared their memories while serving our country.

Canyon Springs Teacher Wins Grant - July 2008
Wendy Shaner won a $10,000 grant from BP's A+ for Energy Program. The project called Nature's Energy is a multi-sensory field-based living lab. Students will learn about solar, thermal, and biomass energy, through the creation and maintenance of a solar greenhouse, outdoor solar garden, solar water farm, and biomass compost station. Beginning next year, a Farmer's Market will be hosted at the school to involve the community in the project. The students and staff are very excited about the project!
Wendy's proposal was one of over 1,400 applications submitted nationwide!
BP said, "Nature's Energy At Work" is a truly visionary project in that it allows student to "learn within a living lab," uses an effective multi-sensory field-based learning approach for students with disabilities.

6th GRADE TEAM WINS AT SPELLBOUND - May 2008
Canyon Springs 6th Grade Spellbound Team took 4th place in the District Spellbound Competition. Fourth, fifth and sixth grade students throughout the Sulphur Springs School District competed at each grade level in several categories. Congratulations on all your hard work!
4th, 5th, and 6th GRADERS WIN AWARDS AT MATH FIELD DAY - Feb. 2008
Students from fourth, fifth and sixth grade won many awards at the district Math Field Day Competition. The fourth grade team won 1st and 4th place awards in Math Application. The fifth grade team won 2nd place in Conceptual Understanding, 3rd place in Math Application and Problem Solving, and 4th place in Math Computation. The sixth grade team won 1st place in Conceptual Understanding, 1st and 3rd place awards in Math Application, and 4th place in Problem Solving. Congratulations on all your hard work!
