Thursday Update, February 12, 2026
Good evening Sulphur Springs Union School District Families and Staff. This is Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi, your Superintendent with a Thursday Update, February 12, 2026.

LCAP Mid-Year Update
The Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a 3-year Plan built on the District’s mission, vision, and goals for our students in grades transitional kindergarten to 6th grade. Together, these guide the overall direction for the District’s programs and operations.
Educational Partner feedback and input is sought on an annual basis. Parents and District staff partner together to review the progress toward the District’s goals. We examine data and gather feedback from students, families, staff, and community. Reviewing the goals and actions guides decisions about actions and services that will be implemented on behalf of students, as well as, the cost for those actions and services.
The District will be holding Educational Partner Feedback for Parents/Guardians to attend. These meetings will be held via Zoom.
Please go to the District website to access the Zoom links under the tab LCAP.
Please see the meetings dates below:

REMINDER: Art Contest Submissions Due Friday, February 20th

We invite all families to encourage their child to participate in our District-wide art contest with the theme “Many Families, One Community.” This theme celebrates the unique stories, cultures, traditions, and connections that make our school community strong and welcoming.
Art is a powerful way for students to express who they are, what family means to them, and how we all come together as one community.
We hope families will take a moment to talk with their child about the theme and encourage them to create a piece that reflects their own story.
All art entries can be submitted to the school office and will be displayed at the Many Families, One Community Family Resource Fair.
We look forward to seeing the many ways our students show that, together, we are Many Families, One Community.
Directions for each art piece:
EACH ENTRY MUST BE THE ORIGINAL WORK OF ONE STUDENT ONLY.
VISUAL WORKS OF ART MAY INCLUDE DRAWINGS, SKETCHES, COLLAGES, OR PAINTINGS. ONLY 2D WORK ACCEPTED AND MUST BE MOUNTED ON STURDY MATERIAL. NO FRAMED WORK ACCEPTED. DIMENSIONS: NO LARGER THAN 24X30 INCLUDING ANY MATTING AND NO SMALLER THAN 8X10. USE OF COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL IS PROHIBITED.
Permission slips to participate in the art contest are attached to this email.
All art entries are due to the school office no later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, I want to take a moment to share my heartfelt appreciation for each and every member of our school community.
This time of year reminds us of the importance of kindness, connection, and gratitude. In our schools, we see these values lived out every day—through students who support one another, staff who go above and beyond for their classrooms, and families who partner with us to ensure every child feels seen, valued, and encouraged.
We are truly grateful for the trust you place in us. Your involvement, encouragement, and commitment to your children’s education make a meaningful difference in their success and in the strength of our entire District.
May this Valentine’s Day be filled with moments of joy, appreciation, and connection with those who matter most to you. Thank you for being such an important part of our school family.
With appreciation,
Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi, Superintendent
